Why do we do this service:
- 4 per cent (or 20 million) of India's child population are orphans. ... Most of these children
have been abandoned by their parents. In fact, the charity estimates that only 0.3 per cent of these
orphans are children whose both parents have actually died.
The total number of orphans residing in institutions and homes across India is 41,730 of
which Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra alone have 11,410 (27.3%) orphans. Tamil Nadu also
has the highest number of abandoned children the country.
- There are 18 million street children in India, the largest number of any country in the
world, with 11 million being urban. Finally, more than three million men and women are
homeless in India's capital city of New Delhi; the same population in Canada would make
up approximately 30 electoral districts.
- Nearly half of children under the age 5 who live in the city’s streets with their
parents have no access to basic health care and nutrition that government-run
Anganwadies Provide and 74% of them sleep out in the open foot paths along
roads according to recent study
